Salt Textiles
Salt Textiles is a multidisciplinary project exploring conscious materials and slow processes. Through functional textiles Salt questions our relationship with materials; how objects are made, how they are used and our respect for the processes behind them.
With an awareness of the environment Salt objects are hand-made using thoughtfully sourced fabrics, natural dyes and traditional methods.
Online Workshop exploring Autumnal natural dyes
With Autumn set upon us the harvest gives us a bounty of natures colours, a palette of earthly tones to inspire intuitive creativity. Natural dyes encourage us to work with nature, building a relationship with the world around us beyond consumption. The slow processes take us out of our mind and into our hands where we can connect into a calmer state, creating creative rituals whilst honouring traditional methods.
Over three evenings you're invited to learn the simple, ancient practice of natural dyes. First understanding the basic principles and seasonal dye materials.
The following class will encourage more play with experimental techniques and working with botanics for bundle dyeing.
In the final session you'll learn ways to bring these skills into practical projects, creating simple functional textiles for yourself and home.
This course will be taught on Zoom in a small group. Half a metre of pre-mordanted linen will be sent to you and there will be a list of equipment shared a week before the start of the course.
Most of the materials you'll be able to find at home in your kitchen or in your local wild space, however there will be some additional materials for those who would like.
